Moving Into HealthTech From a Clinical Role
How clinicians transfer into digital health, informatics and healthcare product roles without starting over.
Clinical experience is an asset in HealthTech, but it needs translating.\n\n## Where clinicians land\n\nCommon entry points are clinical informatics, EHR implementation, clinical safety, clinical product management, and customer-facing implementation roles. Each values direct workflow knowledge.\n\n## The skills gap to close\n\nMost clinicians need a working vocabulary in interoperability standards such as HL7 v2 and FHIR, some familiarity with data modelling, and comfort with agile delivery. None require a computer science degree.\n\n## Positioning your experience\n\nFrame clinical work as domain expertise: which workflows you know, which systems you used, which safety risks you can spot that a non-clinician cannot.\n\n## A realistic first move\n\nInternal digital transformation and EHR optimisation projects inside your current employer are the lowest-risk first step and are usually the strongest evidence on a later application.
